Cooked Chicken smells a bit raw?
Tonight I grilled some chicken. It came from my freezer in a bulk bag of chicken breasts. To thaw them, I placed them in a warm water bath in my kitchen sink. After about 30 min, they were lukewarm, and I rinsed them off. I placed them in a chinese-seasoned marinade for about 30 minutes. Finally, I placed them on the grill, grilling them on high for 5 minutes on each side (I cut each breast in half, lengthwise beforehand). When I took them off the grill and cut into them, the flesh was white and unusually juicy. I smelled the tongs I used to take them off the grill and they smelled like raw chicken.
Should the raw smell worry me, even though the chicken meat was white on the inside (no sign of pink)?
How can I get rid of that raw chicken smell, even after marinading and cooking them? Does it have something to do with my preparation?
5 minutes on each side honestly doesn't sound long enough. Did you use the tongs to put the raw chicken on the grill, and then take them off the grill with the same tongs? If so, that would be why they smell funky. I dunno, it just doesn't sound like that would be long enough to cook. When in doubt, leave it on the fire a bit longer. Better overcooked than salmonella, right?
